For 15 years we have been collecting things, mostly found while travelling.
These are mainly everyday objects made to fulfil utilitarian needs, but that we think are beautiful—their aesthetic coming from their modesty, honesty and hand craftsmanship. They are things that we have in our home, not as precious objects but used as they were intended. Over time, some of this collection has become a kind of archive, as the advance of mass-produced imports have made many handmade items rare or obsolete, even in countries like Morocco.
A large part of the collection in the shop has been personally handpicked by us or been made especially for us. Where possible, we buy direct from makers and paying a fair price is inherent to our relationship with them. Some objects we have included simply because we think they are useful or beautiful, or because we like their story.
We also have a growing selection of international magazines and books from independent publishers that reflect ideas at the heart of Small Stories: small-scale production, materiality, community, handed-down knowledge and the connection of people across geographical divides—united by our love for travel, craft and design.
The result is a kind of international homeware-cum-bookstore where we hope you will find objects that bring you joy, and perhaps some things that you haven't seen before.
